Sylvester Stallone in Bigg Boss 4: Reality or Rumour ?

Reality vs TRP

Bigg Boss, one of the most talked about reality show is now going International. Yes we can term it so, because of the arrival of International Celebrities in the show. First we saw, Pamela Anderson - A Hollywood Actress and now Sylvester Stallone - An American actor, filmmaker, screenwriter and film director can be the next guest to Bigg Boss Season 4 as depicted by a website "Bollywood Billihttp://www.bollywoodbilli.com/2010/11/24/sylvester-stallone-in-big-boss-4-bigg-boss-latest-news/

Woody Allen said, “In California, they don't throw their garbage away - they make it into tvshows”. He said it for the 1970s America and it stands true for the 21st century India today. In fact, it could be true for anywhere at any given time as long as television remains dim-witted and people don’t mind being dumbed down.

If art is reflection of society and if television is art, then there is something very wrong with the society. Or, is it the other way around- society being reflection of art (television)? Whichever may be the case, the reflection is shocking.

Amitabh Bachchan and Salman Khan
Big Boss, the show that runs parallel with ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ has more viewership than the former. From Pamela Anderson to Sylvestor Stallone (next one rumoured to be imported) as guests in the Big Boss’ house has just the right recipe of beauty and brawns that is the USP of the current primetime television. One can easily speculate the millions exchanging hands and people getting rich. So much for the sake of entertainment! We must really be lacking entertainment in our lives to sit in front of anything that plays on our tv sets. Dinner discussions in majority of the households are around who or what is on tv. The least we can do is to watch relatively better programs if the tv set has become so important for our digestive system.

Choosing sleaze and slang over ‘entertainment’ is in our hands. Since money can sell and buy practically everything under the sun, self-regulation is the only way for us as responsible viewers. But if bad taste is the flavour of the season, who is to be blamed? It certainly isn’t the television set. We are to be blamed or lauded for what we choose. So, what is our generation going to be remembered for- bad taste?

Special thanks to Jyoti Singh, who has written this post and allowed me to share it with everyone. She works as a freelance sceenwriter in mumbai.
